How To Treat Heartburn: A Basic Guide to Common Causes and Self Help Tips

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Heartburn is a digestive complaint which manifests as a burning sensation rising up from the abdominal area to the throat. Even mild heartburn attacks can lead to high levels of discomfort and sleepless nights. In this article I will outline some of the most common causes and how they can be avoided plus suggest some basic tips about natural heartburn remedies.

Heartburn attacks are generally worse during the night and can disrupt sleep. This is simply down to gravity, when you lay down it is much easier for the excessive acid to raise up the esophagus. If you are suffering an attack a night sit up until it subsides then when laying back down prop yourself up on pillows so your upper body is at an angle. You can even use blocks to raise the head of the bed slightly.

Prevention is better than cure as they say so let us also look at the cause of night heartburn attacks. Many people eat their largest meal of the day in the evening so the body is then working to digest that meal for several hours after. To help prevent this causing heartburn eat a smaller meal and take the time to chew the food properly as this will aid digestion. Also take smaller bites and sip water as you eat. It can also be beneficial to
take a gentle walk after eating, this will help with digestion and being upright will keep acid in your stomach.

Certain foods types are more prone to causing heartburn than others so be selective of what you eat in general but particularly in the evening. Avoid spicy food, dairy products and high fat foods as well a junk food. There are also some specific foods to avoid such as onions, tomatoes and spices.

Another common heartburn cause is caffeine. Try and moderate your caffeine intake, if you find this difficult to do you may need to gradually reduces the number of cups of coffee you drink during the day. You can substitute coffee for green or herbal tea. Depending on the variety they are low in caffeine or caffeine free and many such as, ginger and chamomile can actually aid digestion and help heal the lining of the abdomen from damage caused by digestive complaints.

When experiencing an attack a small cup of milk or coconut milk can provide instant relief. Water can also help and you should aim to drink plenty of fresh water each day, it will aid digestion and help flush out bodily toxins.

In summary if you follow a healthy diet, being mindful of what you eat and use some of the basic tips listed you can help reduce your acid indigestion symptoms significantly.

I have recently started a blog entitled 'How To Treat Heartburn' which provides advice on how to treat hearturn using natural remedies and also looks at the causes of heartburn. This will aid many people who suffer from acid indigestion and related digestive complaints to provide themselves with relief in a natural and safe way.

The Most Common Hip Pain Causes

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

If you have ever looked at a picture of the hip you will notice that it is a very tight-knit area (as opposed to the hip flexor, which is a large muscle group), where everything needs to be precise to work correctly. If there is even one small thing that is not functioning correctly, there can be massive problems to the entire hip.

The hip is composed of bones, joints, bursas, tendons, nerves, and there are many ways each of these can hurt. The hip pain causes looked at in this article will focus on the most common sources of pain, because there are hundreds, if not thousands of ways hip pain can be caused.

Hip Pain Causes in Detail

The following sections will outline the 5 sources of hip pain causes and explain a little more of what they mean for you.

Fractures/Breaks

You are probably familiar with fractures as a result of trauma; most people have broken a bone at some point in their life. Unfortunately, a fracture in the Hip can be more problematic than other locations. A hip fracture usually occurs near the top of the thigh bone (femur) and almost always requires surgery to fix. Not only that but there can be other damage done to the region that is overlooked because of the break and can continue to cause pain after the bone is healed. Older people are especially at risk for a hip fracture as their bones often thin out as they age.

Contusions

Contusions, often referred to as bruises, are the result of a blunt trauma, often experienced while playing a contact sport. The pain from a bruise is usually caused from inflammation, while the actual injury is caused by damaged structures in the surrounding muscles.

Inflammation

Inflammation can occur in several different types of body parts, but most commonly is found in tendons. Tendons attach the muscles in your body to other structures, usually bones. If the inflammation in the tendon is bad enough it can lead to tendonitis of the afflicted muscle which can cause sustained pain over a long period of time.

A common instance of inflammation in the hip is to one of the bursa located along the femur. The bursa is a fluid-filled sac that acts as a cushion for the bone against other tissue in the body. When the bursa becomes inflamed it is called bursitis, and is a very common running injury that causes pain during movement.

Conditions/Diseases

There are several conditions and diseases that are hip pain causes. These usually develop slowly over time, the most well-known one being Hip Arthritis. Arthritis is essentially the wearing down of protective cartilage at a joint and leads to very painful bone on bone contact.

Secondary Sources

Since the Hip is such a crucial and central body part, pain that starts in other places may be a hip pain cause. One example of this is Piriformis syndrome, which originates along the back of the leg. When the Sciatic nerve is pinched, in some cases the pain is felt in the hip region because of the long length of the nerve and the location of the pinch. There are also cases where people get groin or abdominal hernias that occur really close to the Hip Joint.

Information is power; you owe it to yourself and your body's health to understand your injuries. If you are able to understand injuries, you can diagnose them faster, treat them better, and recovery to the highest possible levels.

Common Mistakes People Make On The Journey To Wellness

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Mistake number one is misunderstanding the process of change and transformation. Despite a person's desire, enthusiasm and commitment, the journey is NEVER a straight shoot in the new direction. Two steps back will often follow taking one step forward toward change. During this backslide is often when people give up on themselves and their process. It is during this backslide where our Ego will seduce us into thinking it is impossible or too difficult to move forward. We judge our process and all our dreams and desires are subsequently abandoned.

This is a classic example of disconnection. The heart wants something the mind thinks is out of reach. In this case, if we never learn the language of feelings, which teaches us to validate, and to feel and release, instead of thinking our feelings, the mind will always win out.

Judgment always leads to stagnation and stagnation often leads to dis-ease (in the body or the mind). If instead, if we choose to look at the back slides as a lesson to be learned from, then we gain from it and it becomes part of the journey.

The next common mistake I see is the very common idea that it takes willpower and deprivation in order to achieve desired results. The truth is willpower is a very limiting power. Approaching the process from willpower and deprivation does not leave any energetic space for exploration. As a result of no exploration there is no information and therefore nothing is gained but frustration and defeat.

The energy of willpower is based in fear. This type of power is exhaustive and non-informative which, eventually wears us out!

Instead of deprivation and willpower, focus on "adding in the good stuff". This will ignite the creative process, which is filled with ever-lasting positive energy!

When we follow the prescription plan of a specific diet. The focus is set on what to eat instead of what the food gives us and even more importantly what is our psychological relationship with food.

Stress hormones in the brain negatively affect metabolism, digestion and absorption rate. What we are eating is only half of the story; our relationship to food and time is the other half.

The third mistake I see people making is the lack of realization that our body is made up of chemical reactions. The human body is a continuous series of action and reaction. Everything we ingest and absorb through the air, skin and our minds is combined with our unique system. Therefore every time we eat we are performing a science experiment, which will have a real world end result.

For example, most people think that their cravings are just part of their personality, family culture or daily habit, when in fact it is mainly a chemical or psychological association. Both of these reactions in the body can be altered given the appropriate remedy.

On point, the majority of sugar cravings are the body's call for balancing the blood sugar. Most of us do not realize how much sugar we are really taking in. When I first ask people to tell me what they had for breakfast they proudly tell me that breakfast is their best meal: dry cereal, skim milk with banana. For many of us, this doesn't sound so bad, however, even if all the ingredients were organic or natural it still ALL breaks down in our system as sugar. Putting that meal into an empty stomach is like setting a wildfire in your veins. That seemly healthy breakfast has just caused your blood sugar level to raise rapidly which will then in turn drop suddenly in few hours leaving you tired, confused, and hungry again. In contrast, a meal filled with healthy fat, fiber and protein will sustain better energy and mood levels resulting in a less caloric intake by days and weeks end.

The last mistake I will discuss is that most of us do not know how to hear and read the signs and signals the body is giving us. The body talks and if we want to reach our full potential for healing and wellness we MUST listen.

The human body is brilliant! The body has an unbelievable ability to heal itself. However, it must be given the chance. Cultivating a listening practice is mandatory for optimal health and wellness. It is for this reason, my approach includes a component of spirituality. The word spirituality means nothing more than consciousness.

A spiritual practice does not have to take a long time or a lot of money and anyone can practice! It is not even a luxury; it is a necessity for a balanced lifestyle of health and wellness.

We are living in a world where time seems to be speeding up and multi-tasking is a skill we are striving to hone. Carving out scared time to allow ourselves to be with ourselves is something we must remind each other to do. It is not selfish to take "me-time"; in my opinion, it is a way to be an energetic environmentalist. It will create a positive ripple effect for everyone in your life and on the planet.

Common Causes And Treatments For Sore Throat Pain In Children

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Childhood illnesses can take its toll on the child and the parents as well. Knowing how to effectively treat your child when they get sick falls to the pediatrician primarily, but it can help you deal with the situation better if you understand what is causing your child's illness and how it can be diagnosed and treated. A sore throat can be caused by a variety of triggers and its treatment will depend on discovering its root cause as well as how quickly it is diagnosed.

Common Causes for Sore Throat Pain

If your child develops a dry throat or complains of throat pain, it is most likely being caused by one of three distinct possibilities: a virus, bacteria, or by an allergic reaction. Allergies can account for a lot of illnesses in children and throat pain is usually an indicator that something in the environment, like dust, is causing the tissues inside the throat to swell. This is one of the many reasons that children should see their doctors as soon as they present any unusual symptoms, so that proper diagnosis and treatment can be given as soon as possible.

Throat pain is often a sign that your child has a viral infection, like that of the common cold or flu symptoms. Some viruses affect the adenoids, and could lead to illnesses like tonsillitis, so if your child presents any symptoms of throat pain, fever, runny or congested nose or tenderness inside their mouth, it is wise to take them to see their pediatrician as soon as possible for diagnosis.

A bacterial infection, on the other hand, is often more serious and can be quite debilitating to your child's overall health. The most common bacterial infection involving the streptococcus bacterium can have symptoms involving a sore throat and fever of at least 100 or higher, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headaches and a swelling of the glands of the neck. If your child has any of these symptoms, it is vitally important they receive treatment as soon as possible. Left untreated, more serious conditions such as rheumatic fever can develop, which can leave them struggling with a much longer recovery period.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Two tests can be done to determine what the root cause of the child's throat pain. The first, known as the rapid test, is primarily used to check for the presence of viruses and the results come back fairly quickly. The doctor swabs the back and sides of the throat and then runs the test. Viruses can be normally treated with rest, lots of fluids and non-aspirin based pain relievers, like gargling solutions. Once the fever breaks and stays gone for at last 24 hours, the child can usually return to their normal routine.

If the rapid test comes back negative, most doctors will still swab again so that they can run a throat culture, to eliminate the possibility of a bacterial infection like strep throat. A throat culture usually takes anywhere from 24 to 48 hours to fully develop and the bacterium can easily be identified from their growth in a Petri dish. If a bacterial infection is identified, then the child will be treated with antibiotics, fluids, non-aspirin based pain relievers and bed rest. Once the child has been successfully treated with antibiotics for at least 24 hours, they will no longer be considered contagious and may return to normal activities, like school.

Antibiotics are given to destroy the bacteria but will do nothing for the sore throat pain, which is what the milder pain relievers are for. Aspirin should never be given to any child under the age of 18, because of the documented risk of a more serious condition, like Reyes Syndrome, developing. Bed rest, fluids and frequent gargling will aid the other symptoms and help prevent dehydration from developing.

Yeast Infections in Women Are Very Common

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Yeast infections in women are very common and very annoying but totally treatable. An estimated 75 percent of all women will get an infection at least once in their lives and many will be predisposed to get them more often. Certain factors may also precipitate a bout with an infection. One of the problems though are that women are self-diagnosing yeast infections and running to the drug store for an over-the-counter medication (such as Monistat 7 or Gyne-Lotrimin) to treat the first signs or symptoms of an infection when it may not be what they have at all.

Yeast is a type of fungus that normally lives in the vagina in normal levels. It is estimated that 20 to 50% of healthy women have yeast in the vaginal area. If it overgrows it can cause an infection with associated itching, burning and discharge. The most common symptom is itching which is present 95 percent of the time in all cases.

Causes of vaginal yeast infections:

- When antibiotics are taken to treat a urinary tract infection or a respiratory infection (or other types of infection) vaginal yeast can multiply to unhealthy levels and cause infection.
- Women with suppressed immune systems (when taking cortisone-related medications for example) tend to develop infections more frequently than women with normal immune systems.
- The use of douches or perfumed vaginal hygiene sprays can increase the risk of developing vaginal infections.
- Women who are pregnant, have diabetes or are taking oral contraceptives may be predisposed to developing vaginal yeast infections.

A vaginal infection is not considered a sexually transmitted disease or infection, however, men can develop symptoms of an infection after having intercourse with an infected partner. Also, in rare instances a man can develop a yeast infection due to a weak immune system or prolonged use of antibiotics.

Treatments:

If it is the first time you are experiencing an infection, a visit to the doctor should be in order so they can take a culture, look at it under a microscope and confirm it's an infection. Any subsequent infections will typically have the same annoying symptoms and can be treated with an over-the-counter medication. If symptoms persist, however, it is important to make an appointment with your doctor right away as you may have something other than a yeast infection. Also, doctors are able to prescribe a stronger medication than what you will get over-the-counter which will take care of the infection much faster.

Wearing 100% cotton underwear is also a good practice to help with moisture since moisture trapped against your skin will encourage the growth of yeast. Many women also eat yogurt with "active cultures" as part of their diet to help avoid infections.

Yeast infections can also affect other areas of the body. It is common for women to develop an infection under the breasts. It is referred to as Intertrigo where the folds of skin, such as those under the breasts, come into contact with each other and due to the warm, moist environment a yeast infection can develop. Symptoms are redness, swelling, oozing and itching. Untreated infections in the folds of the skin can persist and take a long time to go away.

Babies can also get yeast infections in their mouth which is called thrush. Signs of thrush can be seen in the form of white patches and sores on the inside of the mouth. A pediatrician must diagnose thrush and prescribe the proper medication for its treatment.

Common Symptoms and Treatments of Fibroids

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Fibroids are growths or benign tumors that form inside the uterus, mostly of women of childbearing age. The exact cause of this health condition is quite unknown but the disease is known to be associated with certain symptoms. Unfortunately, many of the symptoms are similar to those of other infections or diseases and as a result of this many women are often unaware that they are suffering from this condition. It is therefore important that you understand the common symptoms of fibroids so as to seek for proper treatment.

The followings are the common symptoms of fibroids:

Constipation

This is one of the major symptoms of fibroids. As the fibroids become bigger it tends to press on the colon and this can prevent regular bowel movement thereby causing painful digestion. This condition is often mistaken for irritable bowel syndrome. Therefore immediate check up is necessary in order to ascertain the true cause of this particular symptom.

Abdominal swelling

If your stomach is protruding unnecessary and feels hard to touch, then you need to seek medical attention. Women suffering from fibroids often experience swelling in their stomach which makes them look pregnant when they are actually not, and this tends to grow bigger with time.

Heavy menstruation

Fibroids can also result in heavy bleeding during menstrual period. Sometimes the bleeding can be so severe that it cause anemia and in rare cases blood transfusion may be requires as a result of heavy blood loss.

Irregular periods

Apart from heavy menstruation, many women often experience irregular periods as a result of fibroids. If your menstrual period stays longer than necessary or starts before your normal cycle then you should know that something is wrong. Though this could be normal in some women, it should be a source of concern especially if you are on birth control pills.

Urinary problems

Women with fibroids often experience difficulty when urinating and in some cases there could be blood in the urine. As the fibroids grow bigger it then presses on the bladder and this can block the urinary system. This can also prompt frequent urination by reducing the size of the bladder.

Infertility and Miscarriage

Untreated or prolonged fibroids can result in inability to conceive. As they become larger, they can block the fallopian tube thereby preventing implantation in the uterus. In pregnant women, fibroids can slow down the development of the fetus or cause miscarriage.

Other symptoms of fibroids include painful intercourse, pelvic pain and cramps. If you experience any of these symptoms then you should seek medical attention in order to confirm whether you are having fibroids or any other health conditions.

If you think you may have fibroids or you are diagnosed with this condition, then you should consider appropriate treatments. Treatments often depend on several factors which include the type of fibroids, size and location. Surgery is one of the treatment options for fibroids. Though it can be effective, it is often expensive and sometimes painful and risky. There are also natural treatments which are the preferred options for most women. They provide relief from heavy menstruation, irregular period and can help you to shrink and completely get rid of your fibroids.

To get rid of fibroids permanently, there is a Best Treatment for Fibroids which consists of natural treatment to cure this condition within a few days. To learn more about this treatment option in order to cure your fibroids completely visit Best Treatment for Fibroids

Most Common Causes Of An Irregular Period

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Periods can sometimes be a real pain. Headache, stomachache and general fatigue can be possibly acquired when having your period. These periodic menstrual bleeding can cause major discomforts; and things can only get worse once it becomes an irregular cycle. Having an irregular period is one of the most common menstrual complaints heard from women all over the world. Women generally have 11 to 13 menstrual periods in a year. You may have observed a different pattern with the occurrence of more or fewer menstrual cycles; and it is possible that what you are experiencing is an irregular menstrual cycle. If you want to overcome repetitive episodes of irregular period, this article will be quite useful.

What Are The Most Common Causes Of An Irregular Period?

The most common stages for women to experience an irregular menstrual cycle is at the onset of puberty, during the teenage years, and at the initial phases of menopause. At these times, your body is adjusting to the changes in hormones that control your menstruation. The irregular period is simply considered the result of the body's transition reaction to the new hormone fluctuation.

Stress is another common cause of having an irregular period. When there is stress, whether physical, mental or emotional, the body's response would be to produce a hormone called cortisol. This hormone, in turn, may affect estrogen, progesterone and DHEA production, all of which play a role in preventing irregular menstrual cycle.

Other common causes of irregular period episodes are excessive exercise, eating disorders and illness. Though most causes are not harmful, eating disorders and illness are alarming causes of irregular menstrual cycle that require immediate medical attention. Two health issues associated with irregular period occurrences are polycystic ovarian syndrome and uterine abnormalities, such as endometriosis. Polycystic ovarian disorder is also a leading cause of infertility. Endometriosis can affect fertility; it can also cause very painful periods. You should track your cycles and let your doctor know when large variances of irregular menstrual cycle occur so you can be certain that an illness is not the main cause.

What Can You Do About An Irregular Period Or Irregular Menstruation Cycle?

Depending on the cause of your irregular period, there may or may not be much you can do about this. Irregular menstrual cycle can be normal to newly menstruating girls because their menstrual cycles still fluctuate. Over the first two years, periods tend to adjust and gradually become more regular each succeeding month. Also, menstrual cycles are expected to become abnormal again during the pre-menopausal stage, which may occur as early as the late thirties, until menopause.

However, if there is an underlying medical condition that is causing your irregular period, then receiving adequate treatment for the condition should help get your periods back on track. If you find your irregular menstruation cycle becoming more annoying, there are some helpful alternatives you can do to regulate your hormones, such as the following:

Reduce your stress levels. Take time to meditate, relax or just hang out. This may help change your period into a normal cycle.Avoid excessive exercise. Although regular exercise can keep you fit, exercising too much can also pose a risk to your health. If you are an active athlete, try to lessen or cut back a little bit of your level of exercise.

There are also a few medical treatments that may be helpful in regulating your period. Here are some of those:

Hormonal Contraceptives: They are often used for managing irregular period episodes. These contraceptives are usually available by prescription and come in oral, patch, ring and injectable forms.Hormonal Supplements: If you have specific hormonal problems that cause menstrual irregular period episodes, hormonal supplements is the right aid to regulate your periods.

Therefore, continuous episodes of a menstrual irregular period are conditions that need full attention. Although the following alternatives are helpful to regulate your hormones, asking help from your doctor is highly recommended.
